Arriyadh Development Authority
(ADA) announced implementing 95% of Al-Orouba & Abu Bakr Assiddiq Roads
extension through the Riyadh Airbase.
Upon completion, the roads will
play a major role in mitigating traffic congestion, serving more than 560,000
vehicles per day.
Al-Orouba Road, which runs from east
to west, will be connected to Abdurrahman Al-Ghafiqi Street in the east. Also,
the Abu Bakr Road, which runs from north to south, will be linked to the Salahuddin
Al-Ayoubi Road in the south.
The project includes the implementation
of 11 km long new highways and the establishment of tunnels running under the
new and existing runways of the Riyadh Airbase with a total length of 2.2 km.
Access and exit ramps were also
built where necessary in order to connect the off-site road network with the
primary road network. A Traffic Management System will be supporting these
roads using Variable Message Signs. Storm water and ground water pipes are set
on both sides of the roads to ensure proper drainage of water by gravity.
The project will help easing
traffic on Makkah Rd, Eastern Ring Rd, King Abdulaziz Rd and King Fahd Rd. This
will reduce the number of kilometers travelled within the City by 129,000 Km
per day, and the number of hours spent on the roads by more than 58,800 hour
per day. — ADA/Arriyadh.com
