Tourism events and festivals in the Kingdom over the
past 10 years have seen remarkable growth, attracting millions of visitors
annually, achieving high revenues for the municipalities and provinces across
the country and from which benefited various sectors of the society by way of
temporary job opportunities provided by the festivals and events.

different parts of the kingdom in which these festivals were held, as well as
the benefits attained by the productive families and artisans from these
A recent report by SCTH has revealed that the period
(2005-2016) saw the organization of 730 various festivals and events attended
by more than 85 million visitors, including 28 million tourists.
According to the report, during this period, the
festivals generated revenues of SR 8 billion, and created more than 86,000
temporary jobs, 70 percent of them for young people, in addition to the
exhibitions in which productive families could market their products.
Over SR 100 million Industry annually:
Economists estimate the size of the Kingdom's
tourism festivals industry as more than SAR 100 million a year through
investment of more than 200 companies in the organization of tourism festivals
and events in the kingdom.
Economists also estimated the revenue earned by the
tourism festivals annually at more than SR 11 billion by attracting tourism
trips and reviving accommodation sector, shopping malls, restaurants and
various service centers across the provinces that host these events and
festivals, in addition to the economic activity in the festival locations.
The Kingdom's provinces annually host more than 100
tourism festivals around the year. These include shopping festivals, deserts
and heritage festivals, sports festivals, recreational festivals and other
festivals related to agricultural products.
Tourist Festivals this summer:
Summer this year (2017) is geared to witness 113
tourist festivals and 820 various activities throughout the Kingdom, including
cultural, heritage, sports, adventure, youth, environment, entertainment, and
shopping events. The festival visitor number is expected to exceed 12.5
million, which can create more than 91,000 temporary jobs.
SCTH sponsors all these festivals, events and
programs, providing them with media and marketing support as well as offering
detailed information on them to citizens and expatriates on toll-free number of

As part of its development plan to promote tourism
activities and services, SCTH is developing 300 festivals and events by 2020,
out of which 70 festivals developed in this year, 2017 itself.
Tourism Activities Development Program of SCTH,
which was planned by a number of foreign experts hired by the Commission at the
beginning of the program, has played a significant role in attracting a number
of Saudi youth to invest in this activity and gain experience in organizing
tourism events through training courses, rehabilitative workshops and
international exploration trips provided by SCTH through the program. – SCTA
