The private
schools before 1380H were the beginning of education of the Saudi woman. This
type of education has passed through three phases: In the first phase a woman
or a group of women educate the girls special subjects such as Holy Qur'an as
well as the principles of writing and reading at their homes. The phase of
semi regulatory schools which has no curriculum or observation of the
organized private schools. The private elementary school for girls in Makkah
is classified among the oldest private schools which the Kingdom has
witnessed in Makkah Al-Mokarrama established in 1362H.
When the
government was convinced that the education of woman has become a basic
request and it’s a good time to afford the opportunity to educate the Saudi
girl, the high royal decree was issued in 1380H to establish a system to plan
and develop the curriculums for the education in girl schools. This system
was called “general presidency for girl education”. Soon after that, 15
governmental preliminary schools were opened in addition to one class for
preparing the female teachers.
Woman
education was developed gradually in order to fulfill the social and
economical requirement for the state. We could perceive that through the
achievements realized by the general presidency for girl education at
different fields of girl education, the number of schools, colleges and
institutions allocated for girl education in Riyadh–city has increased
remarkably in 1410 H. Also the number of female students has reached 175819.
In addition, the number of female teachers at governmental school has hit
5835 whereas the number of female teachers at private school has reached
2075.
The general
presidency for college education affairs bears the responsibility for faculty
of education, art, high institute for social service in Riyadh–city. In
addition, the presidency supervises the student dormitories as well as
student libraries. This agency includes the following:

The number of
projects and governmental buildings for girl schools in Riyadh has reached
about 180, in addition to the general presidency for girl education, building
of presidency agency as well as girls dormitory in Riyadh which are allocated
for lodging of Saudi girls coming from outside Riyadh-city.
