Riyadh-city is considered one the fastest cities in the world. This growth is confronted by
similar growth in the structure of population. During the past decade, the city has witnessed high
growth estimated of 8.1% annually. The total population of
the city of Riyadh is 4,622421 and the total developed area of the city is
about one thousand square kilometers (1,000km2).

Firstly:
Population
Saudi nationals represent about
two-third of the city citizens and rests are from non-Saudi nationals. The Arab form 44% from Non- Saudi
nationals, Asian form 50%, the American and the European form 1% only and
the rest are of about 4% from different nationalities living inside
Riyadh-city.
Secondly: Categories of Saudis
Saudi citizens of Riyadh are
highly educated. All Saudi
nationals that are between 12-19 have joined schools, and 50% of the Saudi
citizens between 20-24 years are registered in different stages of high
education especially in universities.
More than 25% of the university graduate citizens have occupied high
rank positions and their ages are ranging between 25-40 years.
Thirdly: The Age
Most of Riyadh citizens are from
the young category. The average age of total population is 22 years. Total structure contains 50% of the
citizens under 20 years and only about 2% above 60. The average age of male Saudis is
18 years, but of non-Saudi 32 years. Females have 29 years of average
age. 47% of Saudi citizens
living in Riyadh are aged between 18-60 years. On the other hand, the percentage of non-Saudis in this category
is 75%.
Fourthly:
Gender
Saudi residents of Riyadh-city are characterized of fertility,
equal number of male and female.
However, for non-Saudi, the number of male exceeds the number of
female. The differences in
distribution of population and their classification in regards to the age
and gender varied according to the nature of non-Saudi nationals who come
to work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Fifthly:
Families
Riyadh-city has witnessed
remarkable excess in the number of families. This number rises from 205 thousand, including 110
thousand Saudi families, in 1407H (1987) to 450 thousand families in which
328 thousand are Saudi families, in 1418H (1998) approximately. The number of families is expected
to increase by 7% reaching 941 thousand in the next coming decade.
The average family members of
Saudi families in Riyadh are about seven, and the non-Saudis are having
five family members.
