Riyadh-City is connected with advanced road
network that includes ring roads, highways as well as service roads. The
length of the blacktop, lighted, and planted road has reached about 807
linear km in addition, the blacktop only has reached 4,200 linear km until
the year 1419H. King Fahad highway and Makkah, represent the major two axles
for Riyadh-City. The first connects the north and southern parts of the city
dividing the city into two sections. The second highway connects the eastern
and west parts. Riyadh-City is surrounded by a ring road which connects the
city skirts and major roads. The city is also connected with different cities
in the Kingdom through a network of highways such as Riyadh-Dammmam which
lead to Bahrain State through King Fahad causeway and Riyadh-Al Ehssa that
lead to Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, in addition to Riyadh-Taif –
Jeddah, Riyadh-Qasseim, Riyadh – Hafer Al-Batin Qerayat which is linked with
Jordan international highway as well as Riyadh –Wadi Ad Dawaser, Najran which
leads to Abha –Jezan and Yamen.
Riyadh-City is also
linked to the eastern province by railway line 570 km length. This line
connects Riyadh with major cities in eastern region such as Dammam and Al
Ehssa. Through this line, the general corporation for railway lines provides
the service for both passengers and cargo from Dammam to Riyadh dry port to
be natural extension to Dammam port where all kind of services are provided
including purging clearance and storage service. The total number of outgoing
and incoming containers to the port has reach about 69,000 containers during
the year 1418H with annual excess hits 7.5 %. The dry port provides the
service for different merchandises including cars, equipment, spare parts,
electric apparatus, ready made clothes, furniture, food stuffs, health items,
building materials, timber, and cement. In addition to that Riyadh-City
contains King Khaled International Air Port which is capable to provide the
service to 18000 passengers annually.
