The Ministry of
Water in Riyadh area was established in 1383H, under the name of Riyadh Water
Services, and is considered the first services to be established in the
Kingdom 1391H.
A royal decree No.
221 has been issued which includes the system of water and sewerage in the
Kingdom to be applied to Riyadh of the cabinet No 685 in 26/04/1391H. Thus,
the service became a general governmental Establishment legal entity.
The name of Water
Services has been changed to be known as Water and Sewerage in Riyadh area
according to the resolution in the supreme committee of administration reform
in the Kingdom. Now it is under the name of Ministry of Water Branch in
Riyadh area, the name is still valid till now.
Main Function of Ministry of Water
Branch
· Preparing and
executing plans for administrating, maintaining and drinking Water &
Sewerage.
· Performing all
kinds of activities which aimed for servicing water and sewerage facilities.
· Preparing, carrying
out and developing networks projects and refining solution.
· Collecting all the
normal establishment costs.
· Exercise selling,
purchasing and consuming duties to fulfill its necessary needs.
Riyadh
City takes Fresh Water from Three Sources
First:Conversion of Sea Water which forms 60%-70% of the
consumption. It comes to the city from eastern province through a pipe line
of 450 km long. The two other sources are the deep and renewable wells at
Nisah area in Riyadh.
The Water is made feasible and available for housing,
industrial and agricultural purposes for a reduced prices ranging from 110
halalas to 6 Saudi riyals in the volume of cubic meters according to the
consumed amount. The most significant indicators for the year 1419H
are that the distributed quantity of Water to Riyadh City, reaches to
415,486,721 cubic meter/day, 142,152,136 cubic meters of which comes from
purification stations and 273,234,585 cubic meters from Jubail desalination
Water plant.
Statistics coming
from Ministry of Water and Electricity indicate that the range of Water
consumptions for the individual has been declined in 1419H as from that of
1411H since the individual consumption average for 1417H was 303 liters/day
while it is 517 liters/day in 1411H.
The number of
subscribers in water services in Riyadh City amount to 243,721 in 1417H.
