Saudi Electricity
Company (SEC) has been established as a Saudi joint stock company under the
Royal Decree No. ( M/ 16) dated 6/9/1420H by merging the ten companies which
have the activity of rendering electrical services and also the electrical
project belonging to the General Establishment of Electricity into the (SEC)
which have start its work and activities in 20/12/1421H corresponding to
5/4/2000.

Mission
The SEC is
committed to providing its subscribers with secured electrical services of
high reliability, and taking care of its employees and meeting the aspiration
and expectation of it subscribes through the ideal use of the available
resource.
SEC
Functions
· SEC takes the
arrangements and necessary regular steps through the best means and in most
suitable timings in order to achieve the best rendered services according to
the credited technical standards that guarantee standard services with the
least costs.
· Enabling the
private sector to compete in establishing and running power projects in the
Kingdom.
· SEC has the right
to establish subsidiary companies working in generating, conveying and
distributing electrical power.
· SEC has the right
to establish other companies or to have an association with companies or
establishments, Saudi or foreign bodies practicing similar works or which may
help (SEC) in achieving its projects.
· SEC shall allocate
part of its income (determined by the board of Directors) for research and
development activities in order to improve and develop its works.
· SEC shall spend
from this allocated money to finance research in universities, institutions,
and specialized centers and in optimizing and, improving its system and
preservation of environment.
· SEC shall train the
national manpower in the scope of its work support the training programmers
in the same scope in universities and specialized institutions. This must be
accompanied by a program for Saudization to take into consideration the kind
of manpower and the time period for the same.
· SEC shall put a timetable
and program for the execution of furnishing electricity for areas located
outside the scope of services at present that are approved by the Ministry of
Electricity and Industry according to Government priorities in respect to
security and development and social aspects in compliance with development
plans.
The basic
regulation of SEC has determined its purposes and objectives, the most
important of which is generating, conveying and distributing electrical
energy, purchasing, selling and rendering the services of electrical energy
in the Kingdom, participating and investing in electrical projects within the
Kingdom and abroad, importing and exporting electrical energy beyond Kingdom
borders, as well as participating and investing in supplying fuels for
companies wholly or partially owned by SEC.
In Riyadh, there
are six (6) power plants
generating electrical energy out of nine (9) plants owned by the
Consolidated Saudi Company in central province. Consumers get electrical
supply at extremely economical prices ranging from six (6) Halalas to thirty
(30) halalas per KW/hour of energy, for housing and commercial usage. Rate
for Industrial and Agricultural usage, Hospitals and Charitable Foundations
is five (5) Halalas /one KW / Hour.
During 1419H the
generated energy from electrical statistics in central region amounted to
22,229,360 MegaWatt/hour, that is, an increase of 3,082,461 MegaWatt/hour at
a rate of 10.3% compared to that of 1418H. However, the energy generated
until the end of Shaban 1420H comes to 18,811,936 MegaWatt per hour. The
grand total in 1419H was 30,157,504 MegaWatt/hour and the sold energy was
27,722,662 MegaWatt per hour.
Following are the
major Projects executed by The Saudi Consolidated Electricity Co. in Riyadh
City during 1419 H:
· Operating the
second phase of the Transformer Plant of the ninth power plant with a
potential of 132/380 KVA, by adding a power transformer with a capacity of
350 Mega-Volt-Ampere (350MVA).
· Establishing and
operating three new power plants at Murouj, Jarradiyah and Yamamah with a
potential of 13.8-132 KV. Each plant operates 3 transformers with a capacity
of 60 Mega-Volt- Ampere (60MVA) for each.
· Boosting Wadi Laban
Power Station 13.8/132 KV by replacing 3 transformers of 25 Mega-Volt-Ampere
(25MVA) by transformers of 40 Mega-Volt-Ampere (40MVA) each.
· Bidding for four
(4) projects for Establishing and expanding many power plants inside and
outside Riyadh City.
