On the other hand, banks play a distinguish
role in driving the march of development in the Kingdom by providing the
required finance to the private sector. We notice that the commercial banking
sector has witnessed high growth rates during the fifth developing plan which
resulted in a remarkable increase in the number of banks whereas the total
number of commercial banks reached 12 at the end of the year (1413H/1414H).
The main centers of nine banks out of the total number were located in
Riyadh-City.
This accounts for 75% of the total number
of the acting banks. The total branches of these banks reached 1,160 branches
over the entire Kingdom. Riyadh-City alone contains 266 branches which
represent 22.9 % of the total number of these branches. With regard to

turn gradually from a consuming city to productive center, contributes in the
accomplishment of the goals of the Government of the Custodian of the two
Holy Mosques. These objectives aim to diversify the economic resources by
depending to a far extent, on the private sector contribution which is now
