The agriculture sector in Riyadh-City is
deemed among the major significant sectors in the Kingdom. This sector has
achieved higher rates of production particularly in the fields of fruit and
vegetables. In the season of the year 1415H-1416H, the sector realized more
than half production of the wheat, 44% of the clover, more than one third of
the tomatoes and watermelon, more than half production of Muskmelon and about
one third of dates production.
The distinguish location of Riyadh-City is
that, it is in the middle of agricultural area in the Kingdom, which turned
the city into a market and distributing center for all agricultural products.
And due to its unique location in the vicinity of Al-Kharj province, it is
deemed to be one of the major agricultural areas in the Kingdom. According to
the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, the agricultural
sector has witnessed great prosperity during the last few years. In the
season of the year 1415H (1994), the number of projects specialized in wheat
cultivation were 435 projects, representing 45% of the total number of the
projects in the Kingdom. On the other hand, the dairy farm projects reached
20, represents about 58% of the total number of the Kingdom projects
including protected houses projects, which reached 114 projects, representing
26% of the total number of the green houses projects in the Kingdom.
